FORMER Gilas player Dylan Ababou is once again headed to a new team when the PBA 42nd season gets off the wraps this Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 29-year-old former University of Santo Tomas star player was formally traded by TNT Katropa to Balckwater for big man Frank Golla on Monday.
Papers of the one-on-one trade were already sent to the Commissioner’s Office just a few minutes after the press conference for the league’s season-opener Philippine Cup held at the Shangri-la Makati.
Both Ababou and Golla were not part of the initial list of rosters which both the Elite and Texters submitted to the PBA office.
Ababou, part of the original Gilas Pilipinas team under coach Rajko Toroman, was signed by the Texters last Saturday to a one-year contract extension although team insiders confirmed the ongoing trade talks between the franchise and Blackwater.
“Kailangan namin ng poste, yung bata,” said one TNT Katropa executive, who refused to be named as he’s not authorized to talk about the deal.
The telecommunication franchise only had sophomores Mo Tautuaa and Troy Rosario as its legitimate bigs.
Once the trade is approved, Ababou, a one-time All-Star and an all-rookie team member, will be playing for his fourth team in six seasons after stints with Barako Bull, Barangay Ginebra, and the Texters.
The 6-foot-5 Golla was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by Blackwater. His move to the Texters reunites him with the Manny V. Pangilinan group, which is the No. 1 backer of the Ateneo where he played during college.
