TnT Katropa says it offered Danny Seigle spot on coaching staff before Fil-Am took job at Alab

    Nov 25, 2017
Danny Seigle said after taking an assistant coaching job at Alab that he is not yet retired as a player.

TnT Katropa had a standing offer for veteran Danny Seigle to be a part of its coaching staff until he decided to accept a similar job at Alab Pilipinas in the Asean Basketball League, according to team manager Virgil Villavicencio.

Team management disclosed the organization was ready to bring Seigle back as member of Nash Racela’s coaching team shortly after his season-long contract expired last October.

Villavicencio said Seigle was having second thoughts about taking a job as assistant coach as the 41-year-old Fil-Am appears to be still leaning on playing.

“Parang gusto niya pa kasing maglaro. But as a player, management is no longer keen on giving him a new contract,” said Villavicencio. “Ang offer talaga namin is for him to become one of our assistant coaches.”

The TnT manager admitted the respect Seigle gets from his fellow player made him a perfect fit for the job.

“Respetado siya ng mga players. Tsaka marami ring naituturo kaya ang gusto talaga namin maging assistant coach na lang siya,” said Villavicencio.

He said he is not aware what prompted Seigle to take his act instead to the ABL with Alab Pilipinas.

“I’m not privy for the reason behind his decision,” said Villavicencio. “But in fairness to him, nagsabi naman siya ng maayos.”

Seigle, a Hall of Famer at Wagner, moved to TnT in 2013 following a stellar career at San Miguel and was part of the team that won the franchise’s last championship during the 2015 Commissioner’s Cup.

He was signed to a one-year contract extension at the start of last season and played for the Texters during the Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Villavicencio said Seigle and TnT parted ways in good terms. But he can’t say whether the same offer remains if and when the veteran forward decides to return to the team.

“That I can’t guarantee. If we need to get one more assistant coach, I think we have to move on and look for someone else,” he said.
