THE Games and Amusements Board (GAB) is now in the process of drafting a response to TnT Katropa’s request to hold its players’ workouts outside of Metro Manila.

GAB chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra said his office referred the matter to the agency’s medical division as it required the entire Katropa ballclub to travel from Manila to Batangas, where it intends to stay and have its own bubble in Splendido Hotel in Laurel, Batangas.

“We’re just waiting for the letter response being drafted by the medical division,” said Mitra on Thursday.

The GAB chief wouldn’t want to preempt any decision but said matters being discussed is the occupational safety and the inter-zonal travel.

And there is the concern too, of whether the Local Government Unit of Batangas would allow the Katropa to hold their workouts there in the province.

“Dapat talaga may timbre din sa LGU. As in many things now LGU is involved,” Mitra added.

Batangas has been under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) since August 1 due to controlled cases of the COVID-19.

The National Capital Region (NCR) meanwhile, reverted to a GCQ status along with other nearby provinces only last Wednesday.

TnT team manager Gabby Cui did confirm about the team’s plan to hold workouts in Batangas when the PBA finally gives the 12 ballclubs the signal to start team training.

But the Katropa couldn’t proceed with it without the blessing of the GAB and the PBA, although commissioner Willie Marcial already gave them the green light to proceed provided they adhere to follow the league’s strict health protocols. The team is likewise mandated to submit videos of its workout on a regular basis to deputy commissioner and head of PBA operations Eric Castro.

“We’re still waiting for the guidelines. And we need to work it out with GAB and the PBA on what their requirements will be,” said the TnT official.

At most, Cui said the Katropa is looking to stay inside their projected bubble in Batangas for about three weeks.

TnT has long been at home at Splendido, which has served as training camp of the franchise for the past several years in preparation for every PBA season.

At the same time, TnT will start its players’ workout with the benefit of a complete roster as management deemed it best to retain the lineup until December.

Former MVP and veteran forward Kelly Williams, Almond Vosotros, and Samboy de Leon are three of the Katropas whose contracts are supposed to expire this month.
