The Tropang GIGA meet the Gin Kings at 6 p.m. after they obtained the third seed in the quarterfinal round. They are in a similar situation as last conference when TNT, as the number one seed, won over Ginebra, the eighth seed during their conquest of the Philippine Cup.
TNT beat NorthPort in overtime, 106-101, enabling it to grab the No. 3 seed and a collision with Ginebra, to which Reyes described as a dangerous opponent despite being in an advantage.
“Nagpapakamatay pa manalo para makalaban Ginebra,” said Reyes in jest.
“But I think it prepares us for the tougher games ahead especially our next game as we enter the playoffs. We know that our games will be similar as this,” said Reyes.
Coaches Tim Cone and Chot Reyes clash early again.
TNT won over Barangay Ginebra, 119-92, last February 18 in its elimination round contest.
Head coach Tim Cone is optimistic about his team as of late after closing the conference with a 104-93 win over Rain or Shine last March 6.
“We’ve been trying to take advantage of each day we’ve had to prepare. We know we have an uphill battle, but the guys feel they are playing better of late and their confidence is high. Justin, too, is playing better. We’ll be ready,” said Cone.
Aljon Mariano has been activated from the line-up but Cone said he will still not play in the quarterfinal. The activation though will make Mariano eligible to play beyond the TNT series.
