ANTIPOLO CITY – Mike Glover became the first import casualty in the PBA Governors Cup.
Saying the import 'failed to meet expectations,' management immediately sent Glover home following his lackluster showing in the Katropa’s opening 103-90 loss to NLEX on Friday night in the season-ending conference.
Team manager Virgil Villavicencio confirmed TnT is now scouting at least three possible names to replace Glover in the hope of bringing any one of them in the country before the team plays its next game Friday against Blackwater Elite.
“It was actually playing below expectations,” said Villavicencio of management’s move. “We have no choice.”
Villavicencio pointed out Glover’s numbers of 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting and 15 rebounds for a -26 plus-minus statistics.
“And he’s been here for two weeks. So parang below expectations,” said the TnT official.
Villavicencio however, wouldn’t mention the names of possible candidates to take over the place vacated by Glover.
“Marami kaming nasa listahan. We have at least three. Whoever comes first,” he said.
If there’s any consolation, Villavicencio said the Katropa locals played with so much urgency it completed a come-from-behind 92-90 win over the Meralco Bolts on Sunday at the Ynares Center here.
Terrence Romeo, Jayson Castro, and Roger Pogoy were at the forefront of the Katropa’s endgame charge which saw them rally from as much as a 76-83 deficit inside the final five minutes.
Romeo finished with a team-high 23 points, Pogoy had 19, and Castro with 16.
“But then it also helped us because na-realize din ng mga players na hindi puwede ito,” said Villavicencio. “And it showed tonight.”
