THE good news for TNT KaTropa is the team has another explosive scorer in Terrence Romeo.
The bad news: the Texers have another Gilas Pilipinas standout who can be called up for national duty anytime.
Add Romeo to the list of TNT’s national players alongside Jayson Castro, Roger Pogoy, and Troy Rosario, raising the possibility that the Texters will be without four players come the third window of the Fiba World Cup qualifiers starting late June.
Texters coach Nash Racela said he has no choice but to heed to the national call and release his four stars if ever it comes to that.
“Eh ‘di mawawalan kami,” Racela said without batting an eyelash. “That’s expected, players being in and out. Make do with what you have.”
Romeo, who was injured in the second window last February, earlier guaranteed his availability for Gilas in the third round of the qualifiers on June 29 when the Nationals visit Chinese Taipei before hosting Australia on July 2.
But with the Filipino dribblers already through to the second round of the qualifiers with a 3-1 win-loss card after the first two windows, they can afford to not send the best lineup – although their record in the first round will be carried over.
Before worrying about that possibility, Racela is focused on whipping his rejigged team into a cohesive unit for the Commissioner’s Cup.
“Getting better by the game,” Racela said after their 100-98 loss to Ginebra in a tune-up. “Yun naman yung goal namin. As much as much as we can, we play more games so that they get more familiar with each other because when you have continuous changes in your team, the issue really would be chemistry and working together and familiarity.”
“But you only see that during the actual games,” he added.
