TALK ‘N Text set its affinity aside on Wednesday when it trampled on sister team Meralco, 105-91, to establish its first winning streak in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup at the Philsports Arena.
The Tropang Texters leaned on a balanced effort as they finally flashed their familiar, deadly form to roll to their second straight victory after starting the season with a defeat.
Matt Ganuelas sparked the rout, firing 10 of his 19 points in the first quarter where the Texters built a double-digit lead they never relinquished as they dealt Jimmy Alapag a loss in his first game against his former team.
“We did a good job playing better,” said Texters coach Jong Uichico, whose team was still groping for form when it barely got past sophomore team Mahindra, 101-97, last week.
Highly touted rookies Moala Tautuaa and Troy Rosario continued to improve, tallying 18 and 14 points, respectively, for the Texters, who kept the Bolts winless after three outings.
Jayson Castro delivered as usual with 15 points, four boards, three assists, and one block in 28 minutes for the Texters, who shot 49 percent (41-of-83) from the field.
Rabeh Al-Hussaini led five Bolts in double-figure scoring, tallying 16 points on 6-of-8, along five rebounds, and two blocks that went for naught.
Alapag was held to four points on just five attempts, and five assists in 17 minutes off the bench for Meralco, which led, 6-2, before letting the Texters pull away.
