WAYNE Chism is no superhero, yet he’s got some major clean up to do for Magnolia down the stretch in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The pressure falls on Chism’s broad shoulder to deliver as the Hotshots (4-5) look to keep a hold on the last spot in the quarterfinals, with the Phoenix Fuel Masters (4-6) lurking and looking to pounce on any mishap.
Wins over NLEX and San Miguel can get the Hotshots through to the playoffs and after just one practice with Magnolia, Chism believes that his team will be up to the task.
“Every game there’s pressure. Especially in a team who’s trying to make it to the playoffs, it’s hard, it’s difficult. But when it gets down to the last couple of games, every team gets very focused and very intense,” said Chism.
“This team, they’re ready to make the playoffs. The pressure is already there, they learn to play through the pressure and let’s see if they can overcome it,” he added.
With more than a week until they return to action, the focus of the 2015 Best Import awardee is to get used to the system that coach Chito Victolero runs for the Hotshots before the match against NLEX.
“I’m taking it very very slow so I can work my way to the system, not hard, not forcing anything so my teammates can get very comfortable with me and I can get very comfortable with them,” Chism said.
“It feels good. I’m getting used to everybody, I’m already used to Paul (Lee) we’ve been together before but adjusting to the other players it’s not that hard,” he added. “I played against some of them, it was fun. Now I am on the same team so let’s see how it works."
