IT was just him making his shots at the right place, at the right time. Nothing really special, according to Jeff Chan.
“Nagkataon lang na umiikot yung bola and sumakto lang na open din naman ako,” said Chan after having one of his best games for Barangay Ginebra coming back from an injury in a 113-90 rout of Columbian Dyip on Friday night that clinched for the team a Top 4 finish going to the PBA Governors Cup playoffs.
Chan caught fire in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points to help the Kings pull away for good from the gutsy stand by the Dyip.
He finished with a conference-high 20 points, which he spiked with a 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range and 7-of-9 from the floor overall.
Chan knocking out the lights at the Smart Araneta Coliseum had coach Tim Cone raining praise on the veteran gunner.
“It’s nice to see Jeff out there knocking shots down. He has such a pretty shot, and it’s really fun to watch him shoot. When he gets going, he really gets you going,” said the two-time grand slam mentor.
Cone likened Chan to the great Allan Caidic, although he stressed that it’s unfair to compare the Ginebra shooting guard to the guy known as ‘The Triggerman.’
“I watch Allan for a long time in my career. He (Chan) just has that same kind of beautiful shot, release, and swish into the net. It’s really a pretty shot,” said Cone.
“No one compares to Allan because he’s special. I think what you would call Allan a freak of nature. No one can shoot the ball as freakish as he can shoot the ball,” added the Ginebra coach. “I mean that as a compliment, being a freak of nature. I call Lebron James a freak of nature, too.”
To all these, Chan has only one thing to say.
“Hopefully lang maging consistent para makatulong going to the playoffs,” he said.
