A replacement has been found to plug the gaping hole Brownlee will leave while he mends.

“We have an import [replacement] for Justin,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone told me via text message on Thursday morning.
“He has not arrived yet, so we’re not giving out his name,” Cone said in a remark that is sure to leave Ginebra’s maniacal followers on the edge of their seats until July 19 when the team opens its Season 50 PBA Governors’ Cup campaign against Phoenix Super LPG.
MYSTERY IMPORT.
The concurrent Gilas Pilipinas coach once called me “stubborn” and so as not to disappoint him, I pried for more information.
Is he ex-NBA? Has he played in the PBA before?
Like a cone, coach Tim didn’t budge.
“I’m not gonna comment [about] him until he’s in town.”
But the 26-time PBA champion coach made one thing implicitly clear for all the anxious souls among the Ginebra flock out there.
“Justin will play when he’s ready. We’re guessing four weeks or so.”
IN KAI’S DEFENSE.
Meanwhile, Kai Sotto has been getting flak for missing the recent FIBA window.
Netizens noted that instead of helping Gilas on the court, he was reportedly seen at a Las Pinas mall while also spotted spectating at some “ ligang labas” venues.
While Cone made no secret of his desire to have the 7-foot-3 center on the roster, he wasn’t frustrated that Sotto couldn’t go.
“Kai is on his own path and we respect that.”
And perhaps, so should the angry mob.
