IT may just be the preseason, but San Mig coach Tim Cone said the Mixers’ losing run that has now reached an alarming six games is simply "unacceptable."

The Mixers arrived from Korea at 2 a.m. on Saturday and hardly had time to rest before plunging back into action in the evening against NLEX, which dealt the reigning PBA grand slam champion an 81-84 defeat before a wildly-cheering crowd at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.

Still, that's no excuse for Cone.

“You never wanna lose games, that’s for sure,” said Cone, whose team dropped five straight games to different teams from the Korean Basketball League before Saturday’s three-point loss to NLEX.

Cone said playing against Koreans teams in Seoul was good in some ways because it made them work hard in their buildup for the upcoming season that opens on October 19.

“Going to Korea, we had to play at a different level and different style but we weren’t quite successful as they beat us up,” explained Cone, whose team got hammered by former KBL champion Seoul SK Knights, 108-68, in one of their four preseason games in South Korea’s capital.

Cone said he had to rip his team off after dropping their sixth straight preseason match.

“It’s still unacceptable to me that we’re losing games,” he said.

“There’s a reality to it, that it is still an exhibition game. We’re not where we want to be, but we’re not supposed to be where we want to be at this point,” added the PBA’s all-time winning coach with 18 titles.

“We needed to be where we want to be come October 22, so we have another two weeks to keep ourselves ready, get ourselves in better shape and get everybody ready,” he added.

Cone said they won’t have Marc Pingris back until October 25 to give him ample time to rest after his long stint with Gilas Pilipinas.

Gunner Peter June Simon has been out of commission for more than a week already after hyper-extending his knee in Korea, and will still wait for the doctor’s advice before resuming practice.
