TIM Cone didn't hold back on his words after Barangay Ginebra’s blowout loss to San Miguel in their PBA Philippine Cup face-off on Friday night.
“They embarrassed us (tonight),” said the Ginebra coach as he weighed in on the 104-93 loss inflicted by the Beermen on the Kings at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“It was an embarrassing performance by us tonight, but that’s what happen when you come to a game unprepared against San Miguel,” added Cone. “And we talked about it before the game that when you come unprepared to play this team, they can embarrass you.”
San Miguel did dominate Ginebra on all fronts and led by as many as 23 points.
In contrast, the Kings never tasted the lead after falling behind by as much as 16 points eight minutes into the game.
“That was not a lot of fun. They beat us black and blue right from the very start of the game. We came in like we’re totally unprepared for their intensity,” said Cone.
Compounding that early meltdown by Ginebra was its 2-of-20 shooting from the perimeter for a low 10 percent shooting.
In all, the Kings finished shooting 42 percent from the field.
“You have to give credit to their defense,” said Cone.
If there’s any consolation, it’s just the first loss of Ginebra after its debut game against Terrafirma two days ago.
“But it’s early in the conference. We have a history, and we know we can bounce back. We’re still trying to find our legs and maybe try to learn to play without Justin (Brownlee),” Cone said.
“And we’ll figure that out as we move forward in the conference.”
