THE PBA All-Star break comes as a welcome relief for Barangay Ginebra forward Chris Ellis, who is recovering from a pulled groin muscle that has kept him out of the team's last game in the PBA Governors Cup against Meralco.

Coach Tim Cone said he hopes the 10-day breather will be good enough for Ellis to be back in game shape when the team resumes its campaign in the season-ending meet on August 10 against Blackwater.

“We don’t play for 10 days now, but we’re hoping he (Eliis) can recover pretty much over the next few days,” said the multi-titled mentor following Ginebra’s 107-93 win over the Bolts at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena over the weekend.

Ellis accompanied the Kings in the road game, but didn’t suit up in their third win in four outings.

Owing to the injury, Ellis has begged off from competing in the slam dunk side event of the All-Star weekend, where he should be one of the fancied bets to top the event.

According to Cone, the 27-year-old Fil-Am has been enduring the injury for almost a month now, but unfortunately, aggravated it during Ginebra’s victory against NLEX last week, 85-72.

“He’s been playing through it,” said the two-time grand slam coach. “He did something that he tweaked it pretty badly the last game while guarding (Henry) Walker.”

Cone hopes the injury would not be for long as the Kings are still without big man Greg Slaughter.

“We don’t know how long he will be out. It’s kind of a day-to-day thing,” he said.
