EVEN without a pick in the first round, Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone attended Wednesday’s first day of the PBA Draft Combine to look for ‘sleepers’ that could help the squad.
The Gin Kings will not select in the first round after they traded away their 2017 selection to Phoenix in the Jeff Chan trade.
Still, that didn’t stop Cone for searching for talent that could be a good fit for the Kings, although the Grand Slam coach said one day of watching the PBA Draft Combine isn’t enough to convince him who are his possible picks for the December 16 draft.
“I’m going again tomorrow. I only have to see the last two games,” Cone said.
“We are at the very end of the draft. We got the last pick of the second round so we are just looking for a sleeper,” said Cone.
Cone though admitted he already has someone on mind on who that sleeper is.
“Obviously, I don’t want to tell you who they are. He won’t be sleeping anymore,” said Cone.
Cone witnessed some of the top rookie class of 2018 led by CJ Perez of Lyceum. The Ginebra coach was naturally impressed with Perez, but added he is not focusing too much on the blue-chip rookie prospects.
“He is a stud. Try to look good I thought. Looks strong. But all those guys and another guys, we aren’t going to get so I’m not paying too much attention to them,” Cone said.
