TIM Cone was only there to admonish Japeth Aguilar from further engaging Gabby Espinas in a heated exchange of words involving the father of the Barangay Ginebra big man.
The Kings coach ended up being fined a handsome amount of P5,000.
Cone’s action of entering the court during the altercation between Aguilar and Espinas earned him a technical foul during the PBA Governors Cup quarterfinal game between the defending champion Kings and the San Miguel Beermen, and at the same time, a corresponding penalty to lead six personalities fined by the Commissioner’s Office during the playoffs.
Espinas was charged with a P2,000 fine, and Aguilar P1,000 as the two engaged in a shouting match late in the third quarter of Ginebra’s runaway 104-84 beating of San Miguel last week.
The San Miguel forward claimed Japeth’s father, former PBA player Peter Aguilar, shouted invectives at him after Espinas committed a hard foul on Ginebra import Justine Brownlee. The young Aguilar came to his father’s side upon seeing Espinas directing his tirade toward his elder.
Meralco rookie Mike Tolomia was also fined the same amount as Cone (P5,000) for his flagrant foul penalty 1 infraction against fellow freshman and Gilas teammate Jio Jalalon of Star.
Meanwhile, Ginebra’s Sol Mercado and Star veteran Mark Pingris went home poorer by P2,000 each for incurring technical fouls for pointing an accusing finger towards a game official.
