WHILE some are welcoming the upcoming All-Star break, Purefoods coach Tim Cone sees it as momentum-breaker for surging squads in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Hotshots snapped a three-game skid with a pulsating 113-105 victory over San Miguel Beer on Sunday night in their last game before the All-Star weekend in Palawan.
“We’d like to be able to play in a couple of days and use this momentum,” Cone said. “Now, everybody’s momentum, whoever has it, is going to be broken, and we’re all starting from zero now.”
Purefoods won’t see action for almost two weeks or until March 14 when the Hotshots face off with Talk ‘N Text in a road game in Davao.
Until then, Cone also can't expect a full complement of players in practice since James Yap, Marc Pingris, Mark Barroca, PJ Simon, Joe Devance, and Justin Melton will be participate in the midseason spectacle.
“Scheduling practices are difficult with our six major guys gone from Wednesday to Monday,” Cone said. “It’s a very important time for the fans, but it’s a very difficult time for the coaches and the players.
“But we’re all about the fans,” the most-titled coach in league history was quick to add. “This is something we got to battle through and hopefully get through it with minimal damage.”
Cone said his team, running fourth with a 5-3 win-loss card, will have four practices after the All-Star break to prepare against the Toprang Texters.
