A DEJECTED Tim Cone admitted Barangay Ginebra took Rain or Shine for granted on Friday night, leading to a horrible 104-81 loss in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“I was disappointed with our performance today. I felt we came out and took Rain or Shine for granted,” said Cone in one rare time when the coach granted an interview following a loss.
“It was such a … I don’t know how to describe it, but I just can’t believe something like that.”
The Elasto Painters’ 0-2 record prior to the game could have something to do with that, Cone said.
“It really shocks me that we can take a team like Rain or Shine for granted just because they lost a couple of games, and I’m just really disappointed with our effort defensively exactly,” added Cone.
Rey Nambatac was quick to pounce on that opportunity, firing a career-high 30 points on an impressive 7-of-11 shooting from three-point range.
The sophomore guard impressed Cone so much.
“Nambatac played a great game. He’s been playing great, he’s like Michael Jordan out there today,” said the champion coach. “He was everywhere today doing anything he wanted, took any shot he wanted.”
And then there was Cone’s former import Denzel Bowles, who had an all-around game of 25 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists.
“Denzel of course, he was all kinds of problems match-up wise. These are things we’re gonna have to figure out,” he said.
The loss snapped the two-game winning run of the Kings, who fell to an even 2-2 card.
