THE PBA and the UAAP are on a break but it's business as usual for scalpers who are cashing in on the interest generated by Gilas Pilipinas' campaign in the Fiba-Asia championships.
Scalpers roaming outside the Mall of Asia Arena or transacting online are selling tickets to the highly anticipated group-stage clash between Gilas and Chinese Taipei late Saturday at twice their original value.
Lower box tickets priced at P800 are being sold at P1,500 through an online selling site, while a scalper outside the MOA Arena is selling standing-room-only lower box tickets at P1,200 each even as its face value is just P500.
Another scalper outside the arena is selling five upper box tickets for P1,200 with its face value at P175 each, or P875 for the five tickets.
Scalpers have also attracted 'international clients' as Iran and China, who will play against each other in the first game of the evening session, have also attracted many fans who are based in the country.
Scalpers begun selling tickets since the start of the Fiba-Asia tournament although prices were only a fraction higher than the face value.
The ticket rates from scalpers are expected to increase as the competition goes along especially if Gilas Pilipinas goes deep in the tournament.
