IT looks like a Thomas Robinson return is very much on the table for San Miguel.
Head coach Leo Austria revealed Robinson is still in touch with the team even after the Beermen's original import choice for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup returned to the US after sustaining an injury to his back.
SMB kept the door open for Robinson by placing him on the reserve list, instead of releasing him.
“Nagpadala siya ng video, nagwo-work out siya and he is trying his best na makabalik dito. He wants to play with us. Unfortunately, hindi nangyari ‘yun,” said Austria.
Austria, however, declined to go into details on whether San Miguel will eventually replace Diamond Stone, who was Robinson’s replacement.
“Puwedeng si Robinson. Puwedeng hindi siya. Puwedeng si Diamond,” said Austria.
The possible return of Robinson, a Sacramento draft pick in 2012 who played in the NBA for five years, should be a boost for San Miguel, which is now playing without June Mar Fajardo after he suffered an injury in his throat.
Stone struggled against Bay Area with Fajardo out as he had 11 points and 14 rebounds. He also shot 5-of-18 from the field.
“Comparable sa mga best imports ngayon,” said Austria in describing Robinson.
San Miguel will have ample time to prepare for the next game as the Beermen’s won't be seeing action until Friday against Converge.
