A SHOUTING match between Terrafirma coach Johnedel Cardel and Thomas de Thaey early in the third quarter led to the benching of the import in their PBA Commissioner's Cup game against Meralco at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Cardel and De Thaey had an exchange of words after Meralco import Shonn Miller scored on back-to-back layups against the Dyip with just three minutes gone in the second half.
Terrafirma called a timeout and that was the time the two had some verbal spat on the bench.
De Thaey was taken out of the floor and substituted by Isaac Go, never to return. He finished with seven points and five rebounds in 20 minutes of play.
Following De Thaey's exit, the Dyip fell behind by as many as 74-63, but battled their way back behind rookie Stephen Holt, Juami Tiongson, and Javi Gomez de Liano.
Terrafirma even led briefly, 87-85, at the end of the third period and was up 94-88 early in the fourth.
Unfortunately, the Dyip couldn't sustain the momentum and lost, 109-102.
