This dunk could've punctuated a career night for red-hot Chris Ross. Well, almost

CHRIS Ross stole the spotlight on Tuesday night as he willed San Miguel Beermen to a 97-86 win over TNT Katropa in Game Four of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

Known more as a defensive lynchpin and a slasher more than a shooter, Ross erupted for a career-high 31 points behind five three-pointers on top of five rebounds and the same number of assists as the Beermen avoided falling into a 1-3 hole against the Texters.

With less than two minutes left and a win in the bag for SMB, Ross had a chance to put the punctuation mark to a career night when he blew past TNT defender Troy Rosario, found an opening in the lane, and went for a tomahawk dunk.

Too bad the ball slipped from his grasp.

"Everyone's been trying to tell me to dunk the ball, so the lane opened up and it was just a spur of the moment," Ross said, adding the sight of Ranidel De Ocampo going underneath the basket and into his path distracted him.

"I went up and tried to dunk it. It kinda went under me so I was trying to brace myself and stay safe so I kinda lost the ball. But it was cool."

Ross was glad nonetheless to see his team get back on the winning track.

"We know the type of defense they were running, it's just everyone taking their shots and being confident with themselves," said Ross.

"I just told the guys it's a long series. We kinda changed up the game plan a little bit and it worked so we know they're gonna come back with a counter. We just gotta watch film and get better."
