THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) reprimanded Isaac Go and Thirdy Ravena for participating in a five-on-five game at a time when team sports are still not allowed under the government's quarantine rules.

SBP executive director Sonny Barrios disclosed the two young members of the Gilas Pilipinas pool were admonished by no less than federation head Al S. Panlilio.

“Definitely napag-sabihan sila ni president Al Panlilio and sir Butch (Antonio, the SBP director for operations) na tigilan ninyo na 'yang pinag-gagawa ninyo na hindi ayon sa regulasyon,” said Barrios.

    “Nakakahiya tayo.”

Barrios and Antonio were guests in the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum webcast on Tuesday, where the involvement of Ravena and Go in the five-a-side game held in a San Juan gym was discussed.

A video, which has now been taken down, showed the two Gilas pool members playing in a practice game that also included Barangay Ginebra big man Japeth Aguilar and rookie Adrian Wong of Rain or Shine.

While the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases) recently gave allowed professional basketball and football teams to resume practices, scrimmages and pick-up games are still prohibited under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

The PBA has since fined Aguilar and Wong P20,000 each. They were also ordered to undergo swab testing, quarantine for the next 14 days, and have another swab testing procedure.

Aguilar and Wong will also take part in 30 hours of community service.

Although Go was picked No. 1 overall by Columbian Dyip in the PBA draft last year, he was spared of a fine by the league since technically, he’s currently on loan to the Gilas program.

Commissioner Willie Marcial though, talked to the young big man and reminded him about being cautious with his actions as a pro and as member of the national pool.

Unlike the PBA, the SBP is not inclined to hand out a fine on both Ravena and Go, who are also teammates at Ateneo.

“Wala kaming iniisip na penalty or fine,” said Barrios.
