AS much as there are those who admire him as a player, rookie Calvin Abueva is also aware that there are those who hate his guts.
And so at this time of the year, the Alaska freshman feels it would be perfect to pray not only for himself and his fans, but for his haters as well.
“Ipagdadasal ko na lang sila at basta ako, be happy na lang ako sa paglalaro ko,” said the 24-year-old former NCAA Most Valuable Player, who has cut a 'bad boy' image inside the court.
“Bahala sila kung ano isipin nila basta maglalaro lang ako (ng maayos).”
Abueva has been getting a lot of attention – both from fans and haters - in his PBA rookie season as he has been a major factor in the Aces’ sudden turnaround in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup.
Going to the Holy Week break, Alaska managed to stay on top of the standings with an 8-3 (win-loss) record after beating Petron on Holy Wednesday.
Abueva said he’s using the break to rest his banged-up body, and at the same time, reflect on the good things that had happened to him the past few years.
“Kailangan din mag-relax, at siyempre magdasal ngayong Mahal na Araw,” said the Balibago, Angeles City native.
“Ngayong Holy Week, kailangang magpapa-salamat ako sa mga binigay sa aming biyaya,” he said.
Of course, he’ll also be praying for the Aces to continue being on top form.
“Sana sa susunod na laro namin sa April 5 manalo ulit kami at sa mga susunod pa,” he said.
