TEYTEY Teodoro is hoping that his stay with Barangay Ginebra will last longer than the one-conference rookie contract he signed with the Gin Kings at the start of the PBA season.
Teodoro, 25, said he has been told about the possibility of a new contract with the Kings, but would prefer to take a wait-and-see approach as no formal offer has been discussed.
“Sinasabi sa akin na baka ma-extend pero hangga’t wala pa sa harap ko ‘yung papel, hindi pa sure,” said Teodoro when asked by SPIN.ph about his future with the team at the end of Friday’s practice. “I think posible naman.”
Teodoro, who was picked up by Ginebra from the free-agent ranks after being left unsigned by a Columbian side that picked him in the second round at 23rd overall, said he is very happy playing for the Gin Kings.
He also feels right at home with the league's most popular team because of the guidance from head coach Tim Cone as well as the veteran players.
“Sobrang saya kasi basta player ka ng Ginebra, parang ramdam mo na PBA player ka talaga. Mas special pa nga dahil crowd pa lang, maraming naka-support sayo. Enjoy lang,” said the former Jose Rizal University standout.
“Sa akin naman, kinakausap nila ako. Sabi sa akin, kailangan sistema talaga ma-apply ko. So far, okay naman. Nakakasabay naman kahit papano at nakikinig naman ako, lalo na sa mga beterano. Tinuturuan naman nila ako,” said Teodoro.
The stocky guard has played in just seven games for Ginebra, averaging two points per outing. But he has made every second on the floor count.
In a 100-97 loss to NorthPort on Wednesday, Teodoro finished with four points and three assists in seven minutes and got Ginebra fans on their feet with a zig-zagging move he capped with a layup against Mo Tautuaa.
“Before sa game kasi, sinabi na sa amin na gagamitin kami. Medyo excited kasi makakapaglaro din sa wakas. Okay naman ‘yung game kasi nakapaglaro,” said Teodoro.
Heading into the quarterfinals against Magnolia, Teodoro vowed to be ready to play quality minutes for the Kings.
Game One is set on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Mabigat talaga kasi iba ‘yung Magnolia pagdating ng playoffs. Marami rin silang beterano. Siguro halos game plan namin, okay. Hopefully, maganda ‘yung maging Game One namin tomorrow,” said Teodoro.
