TALK 'N Text has dropped its pursuit of Marcus Douthit, opting to let Smart Gilas' naturalized slotman to concentrate on his national team duties ahead of the country's hosting of the 2013 Asian championships.
“We’re no longer pursuing Marcus since as host of the Fiba Asia championships, we wanted him to concentrate on playing and helping the national team," Talk 'N Text team manager Aboy Castro told Spin.ph, minutes before tip-off for Game Two of the Philippine Cup Finals against Rain or Shine.
"We feel if we get him as our import, there’s a risk he might get injured,” Castro added.
The 6-10 Douthit has been eyed by the Tropang Texters for the Commissioner’s Cup, citing his familiarity both with Talk ‘N Text players like Jimmy Alapag, Ranidel de Ocampo, and Kelly Williams as well as the team's system.
Another team, Alaska, has also expressed interest in tapping the former Providence standout.
With Douthit out of the picture, Castro said the Texters are now considering tapping the services of Donnell Harvey, the 6’8” banger who helped the Tropang Texters to a runner-up finish in last season’s Commissioner’s Cup.
Harvey though, is currently playing for the Tianjin Ronggang in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and may only be available sometime in March.
“We’re considering Harvey because he’s played for us and helped us reach the Finals last season. He feels he’s got an unfinished business with us. But he’ll only be available in March because he still has contract in China as of the moment,” added Castro.
The former NBA journeyman averaged 19.06 points, 16 rebounds and 2.17 assists in 18 games last season for the Tropang Texters.
