TERRENCE Romeo remains a no-show in San Miguel practice, but is expected to join his new team on January 2 in preparation for the 2019 PBA season.
The enigmatic guard has yet to attend SMB practices since the trade that brought him in from TNT KaTropa in exchange for Brian Heruela, David Semerad and a 2020 first-round pick.
But persons close to the team said Romeo will be showing up soon as he wants to be in the best possible shape before officially joining the Beermen.
“Terrence has been busy getting back in shape, doing trainings two to three times a day,” said the source.
Romeo will be joining a star-studded San Miguel core that includes June Mar Fajardo, Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, Christian Standhardinger, and Chris Ross, who was also allowed to take a break for the holidays.
San Miguel coach Leo Austria said he has already spoken to Romeo after the trade was approved.
“Inorient ko na siya on what kind of team that we have. They are composed of star players but they are playing according to the system,” said Austria.
With Romeo’s talents, Austria is confident the former Gilas Pilipinas cager will be able to adopt to the Beermen's system.
“With his talent, it’s easy for him to adopt to the system. Alam ko naman ‘yung pinagdaanan niya na siya ang top scorer at top assist man. For a fact na may talent siya na ganun, kailangan siya ng any team,” said Austria.
