Terrence Romeo, Taha traded by GlobalPort to TNT for Tautuaa, future draft picks

    Apr 3, 2018

THE Terrence Romeo trade has finally come through.

On Tuesday, GlobalPort finally parted with its wantaway star guard, sending him and Yousef Taha to TNT in exchange for Mo Tautuaa and the Katropa's first-round draft pick in 2020 and a second-round pick in 2021.

The deal, which was sent to the PBA on Monday and was approved a day later, comes weeks after another trade between the two teams and also involving Romeo and Tautuaa was rejected by a committee tasked to review trades by Commissioner Willie Marcial.

Last March 8, the league admitted that GlobalPort had agreed to send Romeo and big man Bradwyn Guinto to TNT in exchange for Tautuaa and bench-warmer Alfrancis Tamsi.

That deal finally came through with revisions on Tuesday, ending Romeo's impressive yet stormy relationship with a GlobalPort team that picked him in the first round at fifth overall back in the 2013 PBA rookie draft.

In less than five seasons with the Batang Pier, the 5-10 guard rose to become one of the most flamboyant scorers in the pro league, but grew increasingly frustrated over the team's lack of success.

The final straw came in the form of a shouting match with current GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio during a loss to Magnolia in the Philippine Cup quarterfinals last March 6.

At TNT, the enigmatic scorer is set to get a fresh start as he reunites with former Far Eastern University teammate RR Garcia, who was drafted after him at No. 6 back in 2013, also by GlobalPort.

He will also be joining former Tamaraws RR Pogoy and Tamsi as well as former FEU coach Nash Racela while teaming up with Gilas Pilipinas teammates Jayson Castro and Troy Rosario.

Tautuaa, meanwhile, is an athletic Fil-Tongan big man who never really settled down in two-plus seasons at TNT. The 28-year-old was the top pick overall of the 2015 PBA rookie draft.

On the other hand, Taha is a journeyman big man who once again found himself on the move just months after returning to the country from a self-imposed sabbatical.
