NOT even a disappointing start to GlobalPort’s campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup can dampen Terrence Romeo's love life.
After his team’s game against NLEX on Wednesday, the Batang Pier superstar is set to squeeze in a short trip abroad with his fiancée as they fly to Hong Kong for a quick escape.
“First out of the country namin,” Romeo said after practice on the eve of their game at 4:15 p.m. “Baka kasama family.”
Romeo has yet to divulge the identity of his mystery partner since announcing their engagement on his Instagram account on Valentine’s Day.
“Malapit na, malapit na (ipakilala),” the 25-year-old cager said with a smile. “Abangan.”
After being a spectator in Gilas practice on Monday night, Romeo again hardly participated in the Batang Pier practice, only joining them at the latter part when they ran through their offensive sets ahead of the game against fellow winless side Road Warriors.
But the 6-foot playmaker insisted he’s playing and is eager to lead his team to its first win in five games.
“Oo lalaro ako. Nagre-reserve lang ako ng energy,” Romeo, still recovering from typhoid fever, said. “May sipon tsaka lalamunan ko makati pa. ‘Di siya mawala totally kasi alam mo yun, di ako magkaroon ng rest talaga kasi may practice every day tapos may game.”
“Medyo okay naman ako, medyo lang ah,” he added. “Kasi last game pinilit ko maglaro kahit ‘di okay pakiramdam ko.”
Despite still under the weather, Romeo knocked down a career-high nine triples on the way to a game-high 35 points in their 118-113 loss to Blackwater.
“Swerte lang,” he said of his explosion from long range – the third time he buried at least eight triples, trying the same mark of Allain Caidic and Renren Ritualo.
GlobalPort coach Franz Pumaren stressed Romeo is still far from game shape.
“He’s been playing. He’s just not the usual Terrence because we all know that he didn’t have a good camp prior to this conference because he got sick, so he’s still struggling,” Pumaren said.
“In fact, I’ve talked to him and he was a different Romeo from last conference. He was not really prepared for this conference because he got injured and got sick.”
