Terrence Romeo rues Stanley Pringle's two-game absence as GlobalPort falls short of playoffs

    Sep 17, 2017

ANTIPOLO – Terrence Romeo could not help but look back at the recent past that doomed GlobalPort’s immediate future in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday night following a 118-107 loss to Blackwater.

As he watched the Batang Pier’s comeback attempt from the press room in the fourth quarter after getting ejected with a disqualifying foul late in the first half, the Batang Pier superstar reflected that the absence of Stanley Pringle in two games where the Filipino-American guard was in the US to attend the funeral of his father.

“Sayang yung two games na wala si Stan,” Romeo said while watching the game, referring to their games against NLEX and Alaska that resulted in losses and hastened their elimination.

Before those back-to-back losses, the Batang Pier were coming off a 119-112 win over TNT KaTropa in a game also in Antipolo where Pringle exploded for a career-high 30 points.

In Pringle’s first game back, the prolific guard contributed just five points after missing all but two of his 15 shots in almost 38 minutes of play as the Batang Pier lost a third straight game, a 109-83 decision at the hands of Star just last Friday.

Two nights later, Pringle was back in top form, tallying 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, seven boards, three assists, one steal, and one block in almost 43 minutes of play, and conspiring with import with Murphy Holloway in leading in the team’s fightback.

“Let’s go, Stan! Buckets!” Romeo exclaimed.

The helpless Romeo, though, wound up seeing the comeback fall short as the Batang Pier suffered their seventh loss in 10 games.
