TERRENCE Romeo played down his staredown with Alec Stockton during the quarterfinal series between San Miguel and Converge in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Terrence Romeo vs Alec Stockton
Romeo said he and Stockton are actually friends, and there is nothing personal between the staredown seen not just during Saturday’s game but also in Game One as well last Wednesday.
Romeo shared that he even chatted with his fellow Far Eastern University alumnus at one point during Game Two.
“Lagi kaming naglalaro niyan ni Alec sa mga pick-up games,” said the 30-year-old Romeo when asked about Stockton. “Ganun talaga ‘yung attitude ni Alec. Talagang matapang. Ako ganun rin. Pareho kaming hindi nagbabackdown.”
During his brief conversation with the 24-year-old Stockton, the San Miguel star said he also had an advice for the young Converge cager.
“Pero sinabihan ko rin siya kanina na make sure na pag nag-gaganun ka, nakaka-produce ka pa rin sa team mo,” said Romeo. “Hindi puwedeng naka-focus ka sa pag-gaganun mo sa player tapos wala kang production sa team. Kailangan meron pa rin. Kapag kaya mong pagsabayin ‘yun, magiging magaling ka na player.”
Once he can juggle both his talent and his ability to play mind games with his opponent, Romeo said the sky is the limit for the 21st pick in the PBA Season 46 draft.
“’Yung batang ‘yun, sobrang talented. Hinihintay lang talaga pumutok. Magaling si Alec,” said Romeo.
