GLOBALPORT is steadily climbing the standings from the midtable and closing in on the elite squads, thanks to well-balanced play early in the season and some big baskets by Terrence Romeo.
The third-year guard averaged 31 points in two wins by GlobalPort this week, lifting the Batang Pier to solo fourth spot with a 7-3 win-loss record.
Romeo had a season-high 33 points in GlobalPort’s squeaker over struggling Meralco, and came up with a big shot after firing bricks from beyond the arc, carrying the squad to a narrow win over lowly Mahindra.

Those back-to-back wins enabled Globalport to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals and the performances earned Romeo his first Player of the Week citation for the season from PBA scribes.
Romeo also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists this week to edge teammate Stanley Pringle, who has twice this season been named Player of the Week.
Also considered for the citation were San Miguel Beer’s Alex Cabagnot, Blackwater’s Carlo Lastimosa and Barangay Ginebra’s Scottie Thompson.

“Wala akong masasabi sa bata (Romeo) kasi nung kailangan ng three points, dun sya pumutok. Hindi sya nawalan ng kumpiyansa dahil naitabla niya tapos in transition nai-shoot pa nya (against Mahindra),” said GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio.
