TERRENCE Romeo has been in a zone for GlobalPort as of late in the PBA Philippine Cup, showing why he is one of the league’s fastest-rising stars.
It must be the hair.
The flamboyant Batang Pier playmaker has dyed his spiked hair blonde while sporting an undercut style since he donned the Gilas Pilipinas jersey a few months ago, and it has seemed to work wonders.
The latest evidence was Romeo’s 33-point explosion in his team’s 108-104 victory over Meralco on Wednesday night, making him the only player so far to reach the 30-point plateau twice this all-Filipino conference.
The reigning Most Improved Player is now second in the league in scoring with 22.4 points, on top of 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists against 3.4 turnovers in 28 minutes in his first nine games.
Romeo, though, said his unique hairstyle isn’t part of his superstition and has nothing to do with how we has been playing.
“Wala naman (superstition). Gusto ko lang,” the 23-year-old cager said. “Kasi pag tanda natin, hindi na natin magagawa ‘to eh, so habang bata tayo, gawin lang natin ng gawin yung makakapagpasaya sa atin.”
Romeo insisted no one inspired him to sport the hairstyle.
“Wala, trip ko lang,” he said. “Wala talagang (nag-impluwensya).”
Asked how long he intends to keep it, Romeo said it only depends on his mood.
“Depende pag nag-iba na yung trip,” the 2014 Mythical Second Team member said. “Gusto ko nga gawing pula eh. Tuma-timing lang ako.”
