HIGH-scoring rookie Terrence Romeo is in uncharted territory.
Used to heavy minutes in college with Far Eastern University and even in his first conference in the PBA, the touted freshman guard has received limited playing time so far under new Globalport coach Pido Jarencio in the Commissioner’s Cup.
They Said It!
“May tiwala naman ako kay coach Pido. At magtiwala lang kami sa kanya na maganda yung pupuntahan namin." Globalport rookie Terrence Romeo
Three games into the import-spiced conference, the 20-year-old Romeo is averaging just 16.3 minutes, the latest a 12-minute appearance in the Batang Pier’s 75-91 loss to reigning Philippine Cup champion San Mig Coffee on Wednesday night where he sat out almost the entire second half.
But the flamboyant playmaker is not complaining.
“Basta ako sumusunod lang ako kay coach Pido,” he said. “Syempre siya yung head coach namin, so lahat ng gusto ng head coach namin, kailangan mong sundin.”
“May tiwala naman ako kay coach Pido. At magtiwala lang kami sa kanya na maganda yung pupuntahan namin,” he added.
Asked if he would like to have more playing time, Romeo, who finished with just two points on 1-of-4 shooting, and a single rebound, said he’s letting Jarencio decide.
“Si coach na yung bahala. Hindi ako pwedeng magsabi,” the former UAAP MVP said. “Kung ano lang yung ibigay, okay na ako.”
Also accustomed to a winning tradition during his college days, Romeo is now in the midst of a losing spell in the pros.
He, however, remains unfazed.
“Basta stay together lang kami,” Romeo said. “Nandun yung frustration, pero syempre we need to be professional.”
“At may mga dapat pa akong idagdag at i-improve,” the youngest player in the league concluded.
