HE continued to score at will in just his second game back. What more if he’s back in top form?
Terrence Romeo believes he was still far from shape despite scattering 40 points in GlobalPort’s 125-118 win over Phoenix in their last game in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday.
“Medyo wala pa nga sa shape,” the Batang Pier star insisted. “Ang bilis ko mapagod. Hindi ako makatakbo. Medyo 'yung timing ng galaw, hindi pa nandoon.”
Romeo blamed a few extra pounds after spending the entire Holy Week in his native Cebu.
“Nauuna yung tiyan ko eh,” said the 24-year-old cager, who still wound up a point shy of matching his career high. “Nagkaroon kasi ako ng tiyan. Ang tagal ko kasi nag-break.”
Still, that didn’t prevent him from conspiring with import Shawn Taggart in leading the Batang Pier to put an end to their run of futility as they ended the conference on a high note.
“Sana dalhin namin yung kumpiyansa at mga positive things na nagawa namin sa next conference,” said Romeo, who shot 15-of-32 from the field and added six assists and two rebounds in 42 minutes.
Stand-in coach Johnedel Cardel said he asked Romeo and team captain Billy Mamaril to lead the squad in his stint.
“I talked to the guys, especially Billy (Mamaril) and Terrence and told him, ‘T, baka pwede mo ibigay sa akin ‘to,’” Cardel said.
“Thank you Terrence, Billy, and the rest of the guys,” he added. “Hindi ko makakalimutan ‘tong panalong ‘to.”
