LOSING to a veteran team Star Hotshots despite enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage is an experience from which Globalport could learn from.
A frustrated Terrence Romeo stressed this point in the aftermath of the Batang Pier’s elimination in the PBA Governors Cup playoffs following their 101-94 loss to defending champion Star Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The native of Cavite however, found comfort in the words of head coach Pido Jarenco, who was quick to encourage the team shortly after the loss.
And dito kami magiging matured sa mga naranasan namin,” shared the former UAAP Most Valuable Player.
Romeo and the Batang Pier were forced to a sudden-death by the Hotshots following a 73-126 loss last Friday.
The gunner out of Far Eastern University, who had 15 points in his final game of the season, offered no excuses for the setback.
“Wala eh, syempre malakas talaga ang Purefoods,” he said shortly after emerging from the Batang Pier’s dugout.
“At saka ano wala kaming pwedeng maging excuse. Ginawa namin ang best namin, hanggang doon lang talaga yung kaya namin,” he added.
But reaching the semis could have been the farthest the Batang Pier could have gone in their young franchise history.
“'Yun hanggang doon lang siguro (kami),” said Romeo. “Ano kapos pa talaga kami, konti pang push.”
Romeo said playing against a Grand Slam champion had taught the Batang Pier to be composed at all times.
Still, Romeo said he has no regrets.
“(No regrets) wala, wala, wala,” he said.
But Romeo knows Globalport’s effort to become better has only started following the loss.
Second year ko pa lang alam ko may kaya pa akong ibigay,” he said.
