TERRENCE Romeo was quick to give credit to Ginebra’s play on both ends after GlobalPort suffered a 108-124 beatdown on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the PBA Governors Cup.
The shifty combo guard got his numbers, finishing with 25 points and nine assists but had to bleed for every single shot as he had to put up 24 attempts.
Ginebra basically forced Romeo to tough angles and contested shots by often times putting Justin Brownlee on him, with the Gin Kings’ twin towers waiting as help defenders in the paint.
Kasi 'yung depensa nila, kapag nasa akin 'yung bola, 'yung apat nagko-collapse, so mahirap sa akin na drumive,” said Romeo after the match.
But the former UAAP MVP was quick to point out that it wasn’t their offense that was lacking – it was their defense which let them down.
For the game, GInebra made 47 of their 87 attempts good for 54 percent. They were as accurate from beyond the arc making 9-of-18 attempts from long range.
For Romeo, that led to their demise against a Ginebra team that was looking to bounce back from a 78-93 loss at the hands of Meralco.
“Tingin ko sa depensa. Doon kami pinaka nag-kulang.
Pero pag nagkaka-run sila, as in tuloy-tuloy 'yung run nila, hindi kami maka-stop. So, yun.”
Romeo was also quick to set the loss aside as he will be looking for ways to be better moving forward.
It’s just the third game of the conference for them after all – and with a solid import in Murphey Holloway and a determined coach in Franz Pumaren, Romeo is still confident that they can go places if they learn from losses like this.
