TERRENCE Romeo is getting closer and closer to a return from an Achilles injury that has kept him out of the entire 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The San Miguel guard took part in Thursday morning’s practice and was in his usual form, a day before the Beermen go up against NLEX at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Romeo, however, said he will be a game-time decision.
“Siguro, titignan ko pa bukas kasi out of shape so baka mamaya hindi ako makahabol,”the former UAAP MVP out of Far Eastern University said.
Told that he looked like he hasn't missed a beat, Romeo said: “Hindi ko na napapansin. Siguro nakaka-suwerte lang.”
San Miguel coach Leo Austria said he will not force Romeo to immediately return, even if the Beermen can use a boost while trying to climb out of a 2-5 (win-loss) hole.
“It will depend on him. Kami naman ang coaching staff na we will not be forcing them to play if they are not a hundred percent or they are not in the mood to play.
"Kasi we always give them the benefit of the doubt. We don’t want their injury to be aggravated,” said Austria.
Aside from minor pain in his Achilles, Romeo said he still has a long way to go in order to be in game shape.
“Masakit pa rin ng konti pero natitiis ko naman. Ang concern ko is ‘yung kundisyon. Ilang balik pa lang, pagod na ako,” said the flamboyant guard.
