BIÑAN, Laguna - Terrence Romeo caught fire in the endgame as GlobalPort held off Raine or Shine, 107-101, to stay alive in the playoff race of the PBA Commissioner's Cup on Friday night at Alonte Sports Arena.
In his first game back after suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas, the Batang Pier superstar scattered 10 points in the last four minutes in a big finishing kick that overhauled a six-point Rain or Shine lead.
The Batang Pier thus registered a second straight win and fourth overall in 10 games to tie Phoenix for eighth spot.
The E-Painters failed to ride the momentum of a huge come-from-behind win over Ginebra as they fell to an even 5-5 win-loss card.
Romeo finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting on top of seven assists, five boards, one steal, and one assist in 31 minutes.
Justin Harper added 19 points and 10 rebounds in 32 foul-plagued minutes as Sean Anthony picked up the slack and led the bench crew with 15 points, eight caroms, and five assists in 30 minutes.
"The bench really helped us inspite of Justin being on the bench," GlobalPort coach Franz Pumaren said. "The longer the second group plays, the more time Terrence and Stanley get a rest."
Romeo too over when it mattered, knocking down the trey over ROS import Duke Crews that gave them a 101-97 lead, capping a 15-3 run that erased an eight-point deficit and turned the game around.
Crews led ROS with 23 points and 17 boards, while James Yap added 22 points in 26 minutes off the bench, but was curiously kept out for most of the endgame.
GlobalPort 107 - Romeo 26, Harper 19, Pringle 15, Anthony 15, Pessumal 9, Cortez 8, Maierhofer 3, Mamaril 2, Forrester 2, Grey 2, Paredes 0
