GRAND Slam talks are ripe and Terrence Romeo is being dubbed the X-factor as San Miguel moved a step closer to the feat.

He was named Finals MVP of the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup, but Romeo doesn't want himself to be branded that way given the heavy artillery the Beermen have in their arsenal.

"Hindi natin masasabi na ganun," said the flamboyant guard.

Romeo's success with San Miguel has been one of the great success stories of this crew.

From a ball-dominant three-time scoring champion, he has bought in to the tried and tested system of coach Leo Austria and thrived with his peers, going in sync with his fellow guards Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot and Von Pessumal.

And one guy who's obviously happy with the shift has been assistant coach Jimmy Alapag, who has played with Romeo before with the national team.

"I'm proud of him," said the 2011 PBA MVP. "I don't think anybody's ever questioned Terrence's talent. I think he deserves a lot of credit when he come into a championship-caliber team and just trying to find his space to fit in and he's obviously done that two championships later."

And a third crown is what San Miguel now fancies as it rests up before going back to war in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup.

Completing the Grand Slam won't be easy.

San Miguel came close in 2017 but faltered in the quarterfinals of the season-ending conference.

Alapag’s 2011 TNT team came close but also wound up short, falling in seven games to Petron in the third conference.

"It's tough," he said of the feat, which was last achieved by the Tim Cone-mentored San Mig Coffee in 2014.

"There's a reason why there's only very few teams that have accomplished that. But these guys have done a great job in putting themselves in the position to, so they should enjoy this, try their best to recover, and take a shot at the third conference."

That same drive is what Romeo cites as the difference maker and not his individual brilliance alone.

"Ang importante, pagbalik namin sa third conference, kailangan buo pa rin kami sa goal namin na makuha yung championship," he said.
