GLOBALPORT star Terrence Romeo believes the crucial foul backcourt partner Stanley Pringle committed on RR Garcia in the dying seconds of their PBA Governors’ Cup game against Star on Sunday was merely a clean foul.
Pringle was called for a deliberate foul after a collision with Garcia with 8.4 seconds left in overtime and the game tied at 102-all.
The Hotshots were rewarded two free throws, which Garcia knocked down to put them ahead for good, and another possession, which resulted in another trip to the foul line, this time by Mark Barroca, who split his charities to seal the deal, 105-102.
“Para sa akin, malinis 'yung pagkaka-foul ni Stanley,” Romeo insisted on the deliberate foul, which is called when a referee deems that a player wasn’t going for the ball in a play.
“Para sa akin, 'yun 'yung nag-decide ng game,” he added. 'Yun 'yung turning point.”
Garcia, however, stood by the official’s decision.
“Sa shoulder niya ako hinampas eh, hindi naman sa bola,” Garcia said. “Kaya siyempre iba yung tawag ng referee. Nagkataon na nag-free throw ako.”
