TERRENCE Romeo admitted GlobalPort expected more from import Brian Williams in his debut in the Batang Pier's 98-111 loss to Mahindra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday night.
Williams had a sluggish start and finished with 13 points on just six attempts and committed seven turnovers, although the burly American big man hauled down 16 rebounds and dished out five assists in 37 minutes.
“Medyo hinanap namin 'yung import,” Romeo said. “Hindi naman all the time, pero parang nag-expect din kami na syempre kailangan ma-dominate ng import namin yung ilalim.”
With their import struggling, Romeo shouldered most of the load and ended up matching his career-high 41 points in 37 minutes.
Still, the Batang Pier superstar kept his faith in San Miguel Beer’s former Asean Basketball League (ABL) reinforcement, who has been with the team for just a week.
“Sa tingin ko, first game lang naman ni Brian yun eh,” Romeo said. “Alam ko kung ano yung kaya niyang gawin kasi nabalitaan ko sa ABL na nagdo-dominate siya sa ilalim.”
“Siguro first-time adjustment lang,” he added.
For his part, Romeo hardly skipped a beat after an impressive showing in the Philippine Cup, but his explosion went for naught.
“Walang kwenta yung career-high kung talo kami,” last season’s Most Improved Player said. “Ang mahalaga sa akin panalo eh, kahit ilang points lang nagawa ko.”
