THE PBA won’t let import Terrence Jones get away with histrionics.
The prolific TnT Katropa reinforcement was fined a total of P10K for his two hits against Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio during the two teams’ PBA Commissioner’s Cup game last week.
Tenorio was also slapped a P5K fine for’ tapping’ Jones in the stomach, which he claimed was only in retaliation for a similar hit the import did to him in an earlier play.
No calls were made on both incidents as game officials failed to see the action.
Both were retroactively assessed FFP1.
After that hit by Tenorio, Jones went after the Ginebra guard and pulled him by his shoulder, causing the veteran playmaker to fall down hard on the floor. The TnT import was whistled for a flagrant foul penalty 1 and sat down for three minutes.
Upon review of the June 12 outing which the Katropa won, 104-96, the league found that Jones hit Tenorio on the tummy just before going down the court.
The incident with Tenorio came less than two weeks since the former NBA player got involved in an episode with Calvin Abueva in the game between TnT and Phoenix at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
Jones escaped being called for a Flagrant Foul Penalty 2 when he hit Abueva on the groin, an action that later led the Phoenix forward to tackle Jones with a vicious forearm that left the import with a busted lip.
Jones and Abueva were assessed a total of P70K fine each, although the Phoenix star was placed on an indefinite suspension by the league.
Phoenix coach Louie Alas believes Jones, a Kentucky University product and previously played with the Houston Rockets, had an ‘attitude.’
“Ngayon nakita naman natin si LA binanatan ni Jones. So meron din talagang ugali,” said Alas on Saturday after the Fuel Masters beat the Alaska Aces, 78-76.
“Dapat yung nagba-volleyball kasi ayaw ng nahahawakan, e. Kasi kung willing kang makatama, willing ka ring matamaan,” added Alas, who also saw Jones’ hit on Tenorio. “Hindi ko naman justified yung kay Calvin.”
Jones had been ejected in only his second game in the league after an unsportsmanlike foul against Jake Pascual in a 99-85 Katropa win over the Alaska Aces.
