TEYTEY Teodoro hopes his timing is perfect as he joins the PBA Rookie Draft, a year later than planned.
The 25-year-old from Lucena said he initially planned to apply for the draft last year at the end of NCAA Season 93, which turned out to be his final season with the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers.
But the high-scoring guard has no regrets, saying he hopes to make a mark despite a bevy of guards in this 47-man rookie class.
“Dapat nga last year pa sana kaya lang nag-iisip pa ako last year,” said the 5-foot-8 Teodoro, one of 30 guards in this year’s draft class. “Kahit maraming guards, sumabay na rin ako. Tumatagal na eh.”
After being left out of JRU's team for Season 94, Teodoro made waves in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) where he was instrumental in the Batangas City Athletics’ run to the Rajah Cup title.
Teodoro didn't help his draft chances after failing to show up for workouts with Rain or Shine and TNT KaTropa. But he's hoping for the best.
“Pinapunta kami ni boss Edgar (player agent Edgar Mangahas) sa Rain or Shine at sa TNT kaso hindi ako nakapunta kasi na-sprain ‘yung ankle ko,” said Teodoro, who also figured in controversies during his time with the Heavy Bombers.
“Think positive lang. Maraming ganyan (challenges) pero think positive. Sana makuha.”
Teodoro promised he will give his all for whichever team that selects him in Saturday's draft proceedings at Robinsons Place Manila.
“Bahala na. Sana bigyan ako ng chance. Ibibigay ko ‘yung 100 percent ko kung sino man ang team na kumuha sa akin,” Teodoro said.
