TNT import Terrence Jones escaped an ejection on Game Three of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals after headbutting San Miguel guard Chris Ross in the first quarter on Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Emotions were already running high just six minutes into the game and Jones was mostly at the center of the run-ins between the two teams fighting for supremacy in the best-of-seven finals of the midseason conference.
The former Houston Rockets mainstay gave TNT a tense moment when he walked into the path of Ross during a timeout and headbutted the SMB guard, who made sure the referees didn't miss the infraction.
Jones was slapped with a flagrant foul 1 but was lucky not to get ejected. He sat out the mandated three minutes because of the infraction.
Surprisingly, Ross was also called for a techical foul.
Jones and Ross have been involved in several altercations in the series with Jones getting tossed in Game Two for a second motion on Ross in the first overtime. San Miguel later won the match, 127-125, to tie the series at 1-1.
However, Jones kept his cool this time, finishing with with 37 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists, and five blocks as the KaTropa put away a 115-105 win over the Beermen to regain control of the finals.
