CONFINED in a hospital since Wednesday due to stomach flu, LA Tenorio has vowed to play for Barangay Ginebra in a game against expansion team KIA Motors on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The veteran playmaker has spent the last two days recovering from dehydration but vowed to go straight from the hospital to the Big Dome to join the Gin Kings in the match against KIA.
“Yesterday morning (Wednesday) pa ako nanghihina. Nandun naman ako sa practice, pero later nagpadala na ako sa ospital, dahil na rin sa vomiting at LBM kaya na-dehydrate ako. Parang stomach flu,” Tenorio told Spin.ph on Thursday.
The Gilas Pilipinas mainstay actually shares the hospital room with his eldest son Santi, who is suffering from the same illness.
The 30-year-old Ginebra sentinel, though, felt he can't afford to sit out the KIA match, considering Jayjay Helterbrand and newly-acquired big man Dorian Pena have also missed practice the past two days due to flu-like symptoms.
“Pero paglabas ko bukas (Friday), didiretso na lang ako sa game para maglaro, tutal nakapag-practice naman ako ng Tuesday,” he added.
The Gin Kings are actually coming off a 95-82 win over sister team San Miguel Beermen on Sunday to snap their two-game losing skid to start the Commissioner’s Cup.
Tenorio said the morale of the team is high after the breakthrough victory while import Michael Dunigan is slowly getting back to his old, deadly self.
“Since nung panalo naming nung Sunday, magada at mataas ang morale ng team,” he said. “Si Mike naman mas naka-adjust na siya since magkasakit, pero meron pa siyang ipapakita for sure."
