BOCAUE, Bulacan – Even a giant like Greg Slaughter has an emotional side.

The seven-foot Ginebra center can’t help but be teary-eyed when the Kings’ latest PBA championship was dedicated to him by no less than one of the team’s top executives.

Slaughter got the surprise of his life when team governor Alfrancis Chua dedicated the Governors Cup championship to Slaughter, who was out with an ACL injury when the team first ruled the season-ending meet a year ago.

“He’s the one that got me here. I’m always thankful to him,” the former Ateneo star, who was tapped by the team as the no. 1 overall pick during the 2013 rookie draft, said of the Ginebra executive.

“And when I got that injury, he supported me and encouraged me to come back,” he said. “And it was really just special for me coming back and winning this championship.”

The Best Player of the Conference awardee finished with 12 points and five rebounds in the title-clinching 101-96 win played before a record crowd of 54,085.

He was actually a solid candidate for the PBA Press Corps-Cignal Finals MVP honor, but had to take the backseat as teammate LA Tenorio came up with a clutch performance in the winner-take-all match.

That’s not a big deal for ‘Gregzilla.’ He said everything is all about winning a championship.

“It’s unreal. It has yet to sink in. but one thing I know is that I want more,” said Slaughter.
