NASH Racela was formally named coach of TNT Katropa for the coming 42nd season of the PBA.
Reliable sources told SPIN.ph Racela was finally given the blessing by top management of the team under owner Manny V. Pangilinan.
The MVP Group held a meeting Saturday night at the PLDT office in Makati City where it was finally decided Racela will be taking over the Texters coaching job from Jong Uichico.
Pangilinan presided over the meeting where Uichico was also present.
Racela recieved a call from a top TNT Katropa official to relay him the news that came shortly after Far Eastern University beat University of the Philippines, 66-63, in UAAP Season 79.
Details of the contract is now being finalized, which Racela won't be signing until the UAAP season is over.
Also to be discussed is whether the young mentor will be bringing with him personnel to compose his coaching staff. Curent assistant coaches of the Texters include Josh Reyes, Bong Ravena, and Art dela Cruz.
Uichico will be returning anew at Gilas Pilipinas as the top deputy of new head coach Chot Reyes.
The coaching change came almost three weeks after the season ended for the Texters following their stunning loss to the Meralco Bolts in their best-of-five semifinals.
Hopes were actually high for TNT Katropa as it went to the playoffs as the top seeded team after finishing the eliminations with a 10-1 record.
The Texters dispatched the Phoenix Fuelmasters in the first round, but fell to the Bolts in the second round in a stunning upset.
Both Pangilinan and board of governor Ricky Vargas went inside the team dugout following the loss and asked the Texters the same question 'about what happened," according to sources.
Pangilinan and team management later held a separate meeting inside a private room at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
