TALK ’N Text coach Jong Uichico groped for ideas in his return to head coaching, and ended up doing something he isn’t used to.
Key players Ranidel de Ocampo and Jimmy Alapag sat out the season opener and Uichico struggled to fit the remaining pieces together, calling up name after name and eventually tapping 12 players for Sunday's game.
“I have too many players that I used and I don’t use too many players anyway,” Uichico said.
The result, a 20-point beating at the hands of crowd favorite Ginebra at the Philippine Arena.

Although the MVP group coaching carousel was made as early as midyear and sent Norman Black to Meralco and Uichico to Talk N Text, the latter officially took over the Texters just two weeks ago and the rotation remains in an experimental stage.
The eight-time PBA champion coach’s job as assistant with Gilas Pilipinas prevented him from handling the Texters’ practices during the offseason.
“Siyempre, nangangapa pa ako ngayon, on who will be more effective in the minutes I’ll be giving,” Uichico said.
“Parang naging experiment itong game na ito, to see who is most effective, especially, defensively since we gave up 100 points,” rued the 52-year-old coach.
The soft-spoken Talk ’N Text coach said it remains to be seen if De Ocampo and Alapag will be ready for the team’s next game on Friday against sister team NLEX.
“It didn’t look too good in the latter part or in the end, but we just have to go back to the drawing board and see how we can improve since I’ve been here for two weeks,” he said.
