'Energy guy' Matt Ganuelas-Rosser wastes no time making an impact for Talk 'N Text

A SOLID, battle-scarred core made up of Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Larry Fonacier, Kelly Williams, Harvey Carey and Ranidel de Ocampo has carried Talk 'N Text to multiple PBA championships over the last four seasons.

One rookie is now proving to be a welcome addition to the mix.

Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, a gangling 6-5 freshman acquired in a trade in the offseason, has been doing a little of everything in the Texters' run to the Final Four of the PBA Philippine Cup.

The athletic former Gilas cadet banged in 13 points and grabbed four rebounds, but more importantly, made his presence felt on the defensive end with four blocks and three steals in a clinical 83-67 win over Barangay Ginebra in their knockout quarterfinal on Tuesday night.

Those numbers plus the intangibles have convinced Castro that Rosser represents the future for Talk 'N Text.

“Siya (Rosser) yung parang energy guy especially sa depensa, and on offense din kasi nasa paint lang siya and nakaka-shot block sya at nakakakuha ng offensive rebounds,” said Castro.

'The Blur' said the Texters may have one of the most complete teams in the league, but the intangibles Rosser bring to the team this season is something it never really had in the past.

“Knowing TnT before, wala kami nun (Rosser’s energy and hustle). Iyun ang malaking contribution niya sa amin,” he added.

“Marami siyang nagagawa sa court, saka yung mga 50-50 balls nakukuha niya. Habang tumatagal yung season, lalo siyang nagi-improve.”

Now that Talk ‘N Text has disposed of quarterfinal opponents by an averaging winning margin of 22.5 points, Castro said their next goal is to make sure they play their A-game against a powerhouse San Miguel Beer side in their best-of-seven semifinal series.

Talk ‘N Text managed to nose out San Miguel, 107-101 in their recent elimination round match.

But the cat-quick Talk ‘N Text guard isn’t expecting an easy series when Game One kicks off on Friday.

“Yung last game namin sa kanila (Beermen), maganda kasi na-stop namin si June Mar (Fajardo),” said the Gilas veteran guard.

“Pero this coming semis, ganun pa rin adjustment namin, alam niyo naman si June Mar dominating sa gitna, pero ang sabi ng coaching staff may ia-adust din kami dahil nandiyan na si Alex (Cabagnot). Sana maging maganda ang series namin,” he added.
