THE PBA Commissioner's Cup is still over a week away and teams are already in fierce, fighting form.
On Saturday morning, a fight broke out in a tune-up game between Talk 'N Text and Blackwater that saw Tropang Texters balik import Ivan Johnson take on the Elite duo of JP Erram and Frank Golla.
According to witnesses, tempers flared after Erram went up to challenge a layup by Johnson in the fourth quarter of the tune-up match at the Moro Lorenzo Gym inside the Ateneo campus.
“Sasalaksak si Ivan, sinabayan ni Erram. Basagk sila pareho. Pero bago 'yun, nagkakainitan na talaga sa laro 'yung dalawa, pinipisikal siya ni Erram,” said one of the witnesses.
“So pagtayo ni Johnson, bigla niyang binigyan si Erram sa may panga, buti hindi solid 'yung tumama,” he added.
The commotion did not end there as Johnson then turned to an approaching Golla, who the witness said was hit in the chest before cooler heads intervened.
The game was halted at the seven-minute mark of the final period of the league-sanctioned tune-up match.
“Tinigil na ng mga referees yung laro. Kasi baka magkagulo pa,” he said.
The hulking Johnson led Talk 'N Text to the 2015 Commissioner's Cup championship in April but figured in a number of skirmishes along the way, including one with Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
He also figured in a post-game commotion during a game against Alaska.
